At this point one of my close friends was trying his hand at the Paleo diet. It seemed interesting to me, the thought of excluding things that were such a natural part of my nutritional intake, but mostly it was the thought of trying something new! So, I came home from a weekend away and convinced my husband to try it with me for two weeks. It was hard. Not so much the elimination of food that we ate pretty regularly but coming up with delicious and interesting meals that we could eat 3 meals a day for 14 days.
This experience completely changed the way I thought about food. I bought cookbooks and researched the various ways things could be cooked and put together. I tried and failed at many recipes but managed to incorporate so many more foods into my diet than I ever had before. It also opened my eyes to one of my now saving graces, food and fertility. I don’t know how I hadn’t seen the relationship before but it was like a light bulb all of sudden went off in my head. If you’ve been diagnosed with amenorrhea or PCOS, one of the ‘easiest’ and first suggestions you might get is to change your diet. However in these cases it usually has to do losing weight as a means to regain your cycle. This was different, I wasn’t a typical PCOS case, I didn’t have a ton of weight to lose. I wanted to see for myself what would change if I changed how I nourished my body.
