With the focus in mind of getting my cycles back on track and balancing my hormones the Naturopath and I decided to stick to the Vitex tincture but to add in supplements and acupuncture. We focused on acupuncture once a week to see if we could get the stagnant blood flowing. During this session we spoke a lot about nutrition and how to properly nourish my body. Whole grains, organic produce, organic or free range meats/poultry/fish, home made nut milks , less dairy, lots of water and caffeine free tea, and little to no sugar.
A wholesome diet that nourishes you is all you need to start healing your body. I chose to take this on as a healing tool on my journey. I wasn’t sure what was going to change but I was already in the right mentality from my experience eating Paleo earlier in the summer. I knew that this was something I wanted to take on and felt deep down that something good was going to come of it.
For two months we worked this plan at at the end of month, October 28 2013 I got my second cycle! Here is a little excerpt from an email I wrote to my best friend.
“I just wanted to send this to you because… last night I got my first period since MAY! And then I basically just felt like a queen in charge of my body. And that’s because you helped me see a natural solution! Thank you thank you thank you for being the most supportive, motivating and easy to talk to friend. Part of these cramps are thanks to you!”
Because this was my second cycle in one year it was extremely heavy and left me feeling super drained and exhausted so when I went in the following Saturday we spoke about anemia. Earlier in my life, while on birth control, I had chosen to take continuous pills for two months straight so as to avoid my period (which makes me laugh now considering how hard I’m working to get it naturally!). Doing this caused my body to do the exact opposite and it chose to bleed for three months straight. This was a crazy experience which I won’t go into now but as a result I am always cautious when I feel like I’m losing too much blood in a short period of time.
The Naturopath suggested I start taking stinging nettle (herb) in tea form. Nettle’s iron content makes it a really great blood builder, and the presence of vitamin C helps with iron absorption!
