I know most of you don’t love that red thing. It can be a nuisance, it can sometimes be painful, and sometime it just doesn’t stop. But for some other people, that red thing is something we dream about. Something we meditate on and something we can’t wait to see again.
Our cycles are an indicator of how our whole body is doing. The way it feels, the way it looks, how long it stays, all of that can tell you how your body and your hormones are doing. I’ve wavered on what it means to not have a regular cycle, what it means to go months and months without any sight of it. Sometimes I can push it out of my mind and say it doesn’t matter, say to myself that it’ll come when it’s ready. And partly that’s true. But the other part of me knows that it symbolizes something greater – an imbalance inside our incredible bodies that needs to be remedied.
Whatever your method is – acupuncture, herbs, hydrotherapy, yoga – getting red back in your life is important. And an absolute must if you’re wanting to make babies. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve googled “can you get pregnant without getting your period”, it’s ridiculous really….because I know the facts. Sure there is a possibility (as my fertility practitioner said to me tonight, there is always a possibility) but in general, if you aren’t getting a cycle, you most likely aren’t ovulating. And well, if you aren’t ovulating, you aren’t getting pregnant.
When you start to read books about women’s health and fertility ( and if you follow me on Instagram you know I read a lot of books on this topic ) you’ll start to read about how women used to cycle with the moon, every single month. I spoke about lunaception here but I come back to it because it genuinely fascinates me. Woman naturally bled on the New Moon and ovulated on the Full Moon – we were totally connected to the universe. And somehow along the way, we’ve become disconnected. Whether it’s our rushed daily routines or the fact that most of us were on birth control throughout our twenties.
If you’re having trouble with your cycle, whether or not it’s completely disappeared or it comes every few months, take some time to re-connect with the idea that your body might need a little bit of help. There are a ton of practitioners out there wanting and waiting to help as well as a ton of books on the topic. From the food we put into our body to the way we sleep, there are so many factors that can be affecting our body’s natural rhythms. If you’re up to try it – the 21 day Holistic Eating and Living Journey starting in September will be a great way to kick things off. Pure, clean foods for 21 days- goodness that our bodies will love and will use to help get us back on track.
I don’t know about you but I’m definitely ready to fall in love with red again.
