She’s a dreamer. A doer. A thinker. She sees possibility everywhere.
There are so many reasons to get up and do. In this world of slow living I promise there is a way to do and go about it in a slow way. It doesn’t mean racing around and getting a zillion things done in one day. And it definitley doesn’t mean seeing everyone on your list and feeling run down.
It means finding the things that are important, the things that matter, the things that will make a difference and actually doing them. How many of us have a list of things we wish we could do, want to do, say we’ll do one day. I know I do. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Having the list is one of the best ways to really visualize the many things that we hope to see come into reality one day.
One awesome day last February I was lucky enough to be in Colorado with my husband’s family for a ski trip. As soon as we booked the trip I started scouring the internet for a hot spring close by. One of my many long list dreams was to swim in a natural hot spring in the middle of some mountains covered in snow. Guess what? I found one. Strawberry Park Hot Springs was a dream. When you arrived, the guide walked you through the mountains on a rugged path. You stopped just above the springs so all you could do was marvel at what you were looking at. After getting changed in a teepee (hello dream!), and walking yourself down to one of four hot springs, you just slipped into the warm water. It was like the worlds best bath.
They were so magically hot and sitting right beside them was a natural stream which was freezing, it must have been just above zero that day. I had just been doing lots of hydrotherapy with my Naturopath so I thought it would be a good excuse to get an extra ‘natural’ session in. I jumped into the cold stream and then flew back into the hot spring. I felt like I was on fire! We stayed and played in the springs until dusk and then rode this wonderful rickety bus back to our house. I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the trip.
I know this is a small story and a small example but checking that off my list, finding a reason to ‘do’ was so invigorating and inspiring. It’s easy to feel stuck. To feel like you need a change. I will always be the first person to tell you that if you want change, you’ve got to make the change. It’s rarely easy, but it’s usually the best decision you can make for yourself. Some of the riskiest, most daring decisions I’ve ever made have upset family, turned away friends momentarily, caused fights, bought on lots of tears and even caused confusion within myself- but after the storm, when it’s just me in this place of change, I start to really see why I needed to do it.
If there’s one more thing you can add to your list in the next 11 days – make it a ‘do’. It can be the tiniest thing the world, but I promise, when you do it, you’ll feel like the strongest doer there ever was, even if just for a day.
