Day 17- WELCOMING THE MORNING!

I’ve always been a morning person ever since I can remember. Waking up early, sliding out of bed, making a cup of tea and finding a place to sit. That’s usually how my mornings go these days. I’m sure there are a million people that get up way earlier than I do but whatever the time is for you, enjoy that time alone before the rest of your house/neighbourhood/world wake up. It’s a time for you to just be with yourself doing whatever it is that you want to do!

For the longest time when I was still working full time I would make a point to wake up extra early so I could have a little morning to myself before having to go into work. This allowed me the time and the energy to fill myself up as best I could with all the things I loved before entering a space that sometimes depleted my energy. I could breathe, I could stretch, I could do a little yoga practice or I could simply look out on my front lawn and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Sometimes it’s the perfect time for a phone call with someone you love. There’s nothing better then having a best friend who’s up as early as you are and wants to share the little things that are going on. A sunshine filled day, a cozy misty rainy day, a sluggish morning, a wild night , a troubled experience. It’s in those early morning moments that not a lot else is going on, so you can simply listen and respond and help guide one another.

Once you’ve started your wake up there is nothing better than a good song to start your day. I’ll never forget when I first met my husband, on one of the first nights I stayed over, I woke up to a playlist of all my favourite motown songs. It was like I was in a dream. How did I find a person that liked waking up to this music? Instead of an alarm, he set a playlist up to go off at the designated time, and the playlist literally went on and on and it just got better. To this day that playlist will forever remind me of welcoming my mornings beside a pretty special person.

I know not everyone is a morning person so if this really isn’t your thing then don’t force it! Instead try to maybe embrace a slow wake up. A big stretch in bed and just rolling over and looking at the person beside you. This can be just as nourishing at times as being physically out of bed. It’s just a matter of taking the time to welcome the morning in your own way.
